LUSAKA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's annual inflation rate slowed to 15.3 percent in May, down from 16.5 percent recorded in April, the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) said on Thursday.

"This means that, on average, prices of goods and services increased by 15.3 percent between May 2024 and May 2025," said Chola Daka, chief statistician at the ZamStats, during a monthly briefing.

Daka attributed the deceleration in annual inflation to slower price increases in both food and non-food items, including cereals, milk, vegetables and motor vehicles.

However, she said that month-on-month inflation rose to 0.3 percent in May, up from 0.1 percent in April. This increase was mainly driven by price movements in selected food and non-food items.
