LUSAKA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Zambia on Tuesday launched the Climate Smart Governance Dashboard, an online platform that will provide timely and evidence-based information for climate change action.

"This is crucial given that climate change is a knowledge-intensive area that requires huge quantities of data to support decision-making for adaptation planning at local, national and transnational scales," said Douty Chibamba, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, during the launch.

Chibamba said the launch marks another important milestone in Zambia's commitment to act on climate change challenges, as the platform will address the lack of timely, context-specific and actionable information for researchers, policymakers and planners for climate action.

According to him, the platform also offers a dedicated source of knowledge in terms of climate risk and vulnerability profiles, adaptation and mitigation actions that were being implemented as well as opportunities for climate financing.

Chibamba said the establishment of the platform was timely as it will complement the national climate change communication and advocacy strategy, adding that it will increase the knowledge base at the country's disposal.

"The new online platform will also enhance the speed and efficiency of climate action taken at national and sub-national levels," he said. "It will enhance climate change awareness and education, thereby promoting the implementation of the nationally determined contributions and national adaptation plan."
